#19 –  Beyond the Quick Fix: A Somatic Approach to Personal Growth with Suze Retera

Katia Khomich Season 1 Episode 19

I'm speaking with Suze Retera, a trauma therapist based in Amsterdam with a passion for integrating diverse healing modalities. She created a holistic approach combining Somatic Experiencing, Internal Family Systems and TRE® with Orthomolecular therapy.

With a Master of Science (MSc) in Psychology and years of professional and personal experience, she brings together body- and mind-centered therapies to facilitate deep and lasting change.

Having navigated her own journey with early life challenges and how they shape behavioural patterns and physical health later in life, Suze understands firsthand the importance of addressing both physical and psychological dimensions in healing. Her work emphasizes the healing potential of embodying insights. Moving beyond cognitive understanding to create real shifts in behaviour, health, and overall well-being.

She is also a founder of Global Flow Retreats and Oil&Ohm Body Oils. Yoga & Yoga Nidra teacher for teachers and therapists in training.

She brings a beautifully holistic approach to healing and personal growth. Suze works with Internal Family Systems therapy and has a deep understanding of trauma-informed care, helping people reconnect with their bodies and navigate the complex relationship between mind, body, and spirit.

In our conversation, we explore some profound questions: What happens when our well-honed coping mechanisms—like the drive to control and achieve—suddenly stop working? How do we distinguish between who we truly are and who we became in order to feel safe? And perhaps most importantly, how do we begin the journey back to ourselves?
